# From my bedroom to 15,000 users : why I built Getaway travel.

My name is Fily. I'm 21, I'm a student, and I built an app.

It all started in December 2024\. I was suffocating. Between my student job, my classes, the pressure, the stress. I just needed to get out. I wanted to travel. Not plan for months, not wait for the perfect moment. Just go.

The problem? Every time I had that urge, it was last minute. And my friends were never available at the same time. Never. So I ended up traveling alone, which is fine, until it isn't. Until you're sitting at a restaurant by yourself in a city you don't know and wishing you had someone to share the moment with.

So I did what any slightly impulsive person would do. I created a group on social media.

And something unexpected happened. The group blew up. Thousands of people joined. And I realized I wasn't alone in this. There were so many young people who wanted to travel, to go out, to live but were scared to do it alone. So they just... didn't.

That broke my heart a little lol.

Travel is not a luxury reserved for the bold. If you have the means to go somewhere, the only thing stopping you shouldn't be the fear of going alone. That felt wrong to me. So I built something to fix it.

That's how Getaway was born.

And as time went on, I realized people needed Getaway for more than just travel. They were using it to find people for concerts, brunches, festivals, weekend activities. The app wasn't just about trips anymore. It was about connection. Finding your people, whatever the plan.

That's what Getaway really is. Not a travel app. A place where you stop waiting for someone to be available and start living.
